Answers to common questions about PowderFAB Studio.
PowderFAB Studio supports direct ingestion of standard CAD STEP files (`.step`, `.stp`), stereolithography files (`.stl`), Wavefront objects (`.obj`), 3D Manufacturing format (`.3mf`), and GL Transmission format (`.glb`/`.gltf`). Models are converted locally on your machine using our high-performance geometry pipeline.
No. One of PowderFAB's core design principles is complete local privacy. All heavy geometric computations, slicing, and conformal lattice generation occur 100% locally on your machine. No design files ever leave your computer, ensuring complete intellectual property security.
The MSI Installer sets up PowderFAB Lattice Studio in your system directory, adds desktop shortcuts, registry entries, and registers the file types. The Portable ZIP package requires no installation; you can extract it to any directory (including a USB stick) and run the application directly by double-clicking the .exe.
Yes. PowderFAB supports predefined TPMS (Triple Periodic Minimal Surface) structures like Gyroid, Schwarz P, and Diamond, custom TPMS via your own math equation, and strut-based topologies like BCC, FCC, and octet truss — with full control over gradients and pattern alignment.
The beta installers aren't code-signed yet, so Microsoft SmartScreen may show a "Windows protected your PC" screen the first time you run them. This is Windows' standard caution for any new, unsigned file that hasn't built up a download reputation — it doesn't mean anything harmful was found. Click More info, then Run anyway to proceed. To confirm your download is authentic, your download email includes the file's SHA-256 checksum: run Get-FileHash on the downloaded file in PowerShell and check that the hashes match. Code signing is planned as the beta matures.
PowderFAB runs on Windows 10 and 11. Mesh tessellation, lattice generation, and boolean operations all run on the CPU, so a modern multi-core processor matters more than graphics power — any GPU supporting WebGL 2.0, including integrated graphics (e.g. Intel UHD/Iris), is sufficient for the 3D viewport. At least 8 GB of system RAM is recommended.
